Types of Patents Applications

• ​Provisional Application - This is primary application when the project / invention is still under progress or experimental phase.

• Normal / Ordinary Application -  This is normal application to patent the finalized invention with its specification and claims.

• PCT International Application - The Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) is an international patent law treaty, concluded in 1970. The application can be done under PCT to protect inventions in each of its contracting states & countries. A patent application filed under PCT is called an International application or PCT International Application.

• National Phase Application - The next step after PCT International application is "National Phase Entry / Application". This process is sometimes also called "national stage entry", or "patent nationalization". The process of national phase entry is necessary because your PCT application can never become a proper granted patent.

• Divisional Application - If patent is applied for more than one inventions / products than divisional application can be applied.
